the lost mitten story

Last year, spillyjane of Spillyjane Knits put out her wonderful Camilla Mittens. Shortly afterward, she announced that anyone who knit a pair by the end of the next month and sent her a photo would receive a free pattern of her mitten designs of their choice. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Now, there were a few obstacles (my friend accidentally breaking a needle being one of them), but needless to say, I was more than successful in that challenge. I also reaped more award than one. Not only did I get a kick ass ROBOMITT pattern, I got a beautiful new pair of mittens and I leveled up my knitting skills to include colourwork. Undies is now at level 19. Dexterity +2 exp, Speed +4 exp, Intelligence +5 exp, Skill +7 exp, Perseverance +3 ex,  Sleep -2 exp, Warmth +2 mittens.

For a year, I loved the mittens very much, using and abusing them (dropping them in puddles, tossing them into  the  every single day of cold weather.Unfortunately, life happens. One day, on my way to school, I ended up losing a mitten.

Now, the beauty of knit mittens is that so long as you have similar yarn, you can re-knit a mitten. So, since I had plenty of the original yarn left, I simply took time to re-knit the lost mitten. Some of you may think it's silly to spend that time making a new one, especially since now they don't colour coordinate with my newest bright pink headphones, however I found the mitten to seem quite lonely, missing it's pair. Not to mention, it's Canada, winter, and COLD. I need mitts and I can't seem to find any of my own.

So I stuck through it, and now my mittens are a pair again. A lovely, warm, and useful pair. It's great, because now I don't have to worry about freezing my fingers off when I hold my boyfriend's hands. :P

Ps, I also learned a neat, but blinding photography trick!
